You must be logged in to change gallery settings. After logging in, click on any of your galleries and look for the Tools Menu near the top of the page.
Choose the Gallery Settings option from the "This Gallery" section.

Essentials
Title: This is the name of your gallery and it will be displayed next to the representative thumbnail for the gallery, and in search results.
Category: Every gallery requires a category, which makes good browsing possible. You can add categories and subcategories to your list in the Customize tab of your Control Panel.
The NiceName gives your visitors a clean, easy-to-remember URL. We'll auto-generate one based on the gallery title, unless you type one in yourself. Keep it short: 30 characters is the maximum length, and only alphanumerics and dashes are allowed.
NiceNames are great for search engine findability, but if you want to keep your gallery out of the public eye just switch Hello World and Hello Smuggers to "No" in your Security and Privacy settings below. Here are more details on SmugIslands.
Gotcha: You can change the NiceName at any time right here in your Gallery Settings, but remember that anyone using the old NiceName link without the Album ID and Key will be redirected to the closest possible location: subcategory, category, or your homepage.
For example: If you create a gallery at yournickname.smugmug.com/Animals/Zoo and later change the NiceName "Zoo" to "Zebras", your visitors using the original link will be redirected to yournickname.smugmug.com/Animals, instead. If you ever change the category level (Animals) then your visitors will land at your homepage.
Get a permanent gallery link by leaving the Album ID and Key intact or by using the Get a link feature. It will include those extra letters and numbers so your visitors will be able to find the exact gallery, even if you reorganize your site.
Extras
Look & Feel
Theme: Scare your admirers with a Halloween theme... Or dazzle them from an ever-growing list. Power and Pro subscribers can create their own themes.
Appearance is for Power and Pro users and controls whether your customized look is used on the gallery pages.
Clean means the gallery description and modified date will not appear on your home page. All categories and subcategories containing a 'clean' gallery will also display as 'clean'.
Camera info places a photo info icon in the photobar so visitors can pop up a window (example below) with such details as the date a photo was taken, assuming your camera manufacturer supplies it and you don't strip it out by using the save for web option with Photoshop.
Have you seen photos with captions like "DSC_0013"? Chances are that's the Filename assigned to a photo by a digital camera. If you choose yes to the filename option, your photos will display filenames if there are no captions. If you've entered a caption into your photo's file info field (IPTC caption) with a program like Photoshop, we automatically use it as the caption.
The Thumbnails option lets you give your gallery a clean look by automatically choosing a square portion of your image to be the representative thumbnail. This does not affect your original images and you can always switch back. Or, you can crop the thumbs yourself, if you prefer.
Gallery style lets you force a certain layout for your gallery. Example: This gallery is forced to Journal (Old) style.
Auto sort lets you specify how photos will be arranged in your galleries. If you leave it set at None, then you can manually arrange them in any order. Tips.
Security & Privacy
Set a gallery Password to ensure the only people who see your pictures are those to whom you give the password. More.
Privacy: If you select Unlisted, your gallery will not be shown to visitors on your SmugMug homepage. You can send people to your galleries by using one of the sharing options, but no one will find your gallery by using the search or browse features. The purpose is to restrict access to people you invite, without having to use passwords. More.
Hello World and Hello Smuggers are SmugIsland settings. Use site-wide setting means this gallery will follow the site-wide SmugIsland settings in your Control Panel. No means this gallery will not be searchable to visitors or appear on Google, regardless of what your site-wide SmugIslands settings are.
External links. Suppose you have a great photo of an iPod in your gallery. With external links turned on, someone can link to your iPod photo to bolster their auction at eBay, generating a lot of views of your photo. If you don't want your photos to appear on forums, blogs, or other Web pages outside of SmugMug, turn external linking off. You need external links set to yes in order to use SmugMug's share emails.
Protected is a Power and Pro feature that thwarts right-click saving of photos. It is a deterrent to image theft, but is not fool-proof. Find out about other image protection options.
Watermarking is a Pro-only feature.
Hide owner removes all mention of the owner of the gallery (you!), all links back to your homepage, and any customization power or pro users may have on the rest of their site. This allows you to link a gallery to someone so they can't find their way back to your homepage.
If you'd rather your visitors didn't have access to view your high-resolution original images, select a smaller size as your Largest size. Power and standard users can block original, X3L, and X2L by choosing to display XLarge as their largest size. Pro users can block even the large size by choosing to display medium as their largest size.
Smart Settings
Make any gallery Smart by specifying Rules that they'll follow to populate them. When you add new photos to your site, the Rules still apply so that newly uploaded photos can display in multiple galleries without you copying, moving, or uploading them again.
Click Make This Gallery Smart to add, edit, or remove any gallery's Smart Settings. If you've already created Rules, we'll list a summary here so you can get them at a glance. More info.
Social
You can turn PhotoRank (voting on your photos) on and off.
Comments empower anyone to leave jewels like "great shot" or "you stink" on each photo and gallery. You can imagine why some love and some hate this option (and why we put the decision in your hands). Be notified and delete.
Easy sharing gives you a Share button in each gallery. This button leads to a handy page of easily copied urls as well as a great email sharing feature, social bookmarking, and easy posting to other social sites like Facebook. The button also includes our owner-only Show Off feature, which gives you embeddable badges and slideshows.
You can designate any SmugMug user as friend or family and allow them to edit captions and keywords.
Printing
Printable places a Buy button on each gallery page for ordering professional-quality prints.
Color correction is an option only Power and Standard users will see on this page. Professional users will see this on their Pro pricing. Here's what it does.
Proof-delay and backprinting are both (sweet!) Pro-only features.
Sharpening - Power and Pro only
This section is only available for Power and Pro SmugMuggers.
SmugMug does not apply any sharpening to your original images, but we do sharpen all the display sizes. This section gives you the power to tweak our sharpening formula. We'll also use these settings for purchased 1 MP and 4 MP digital downloads.
Changes made to this section will apply to all newly generated display copies. Your photos get new display copies when they are first uploaded, and after they are modified by cropping, rotating, watermarking, or using SmugMug's color effects tool.
You'll find an explanation of these settings here.
Tip: Don't like the changes you made? Change 'em back to SmugMug's default values and do a bulk rotate of all the images in the gallery. We'll make new display copies using SmugMug's default values.

Need to change settings on lots of galleries?
Good news! You can easily apply your choice of settings to as many (or as few) galleries as you wish.
Select the "Multiple Galleries" button at the top of the gallery settings page.
Pick the galleries you want to modify from the drop-down menu. As you choose, each gallery name will appear in a list so you can see which ones you're changing. Made a mistake? Just click "remove."
Or if you prefer, check "All of my galleries" to apply your changes to every gallery on your site.
Now you're ready to make your changes. Check the box on each line item to activate it and adjust the setting as you please. Anything you don't touch will stay grayed out and will not change.
Finished? Click Save.
Make a quick setting now to save time later.
Quick Settings (near the top of the page) are great to set up and apply to new galleries.
To make one, choose Save settings on this page as... from the pull-down menu. Type in a name for your new Quick Setting. Set your gallery options. Then click Save. Whenever you create a new gallery, you'll have the option of choosing a Quick Setting to pre-load the gallery options to your liking.
To delete a Quick Setting, select it from the menu and click the Delete button that appears.
Click Apply Quick Settings to multiple galleries to quickly apply a quick setting to any gallery on your site.
Note: Quick Settings do not include gallery title, description, keywords, category, subcategory, NiceName, or theme so those things will need to be tweaked for each gallery. Applying a Quick Setting to an existing gallery will not re-make thumbnails or re-watermark photos already in the gallery.
